Vote on Marriage

There will be a Vote on Marriage Rally in Worcester on Saturday December 16th. Details to follow.

Marriage Calls

Take a Stand for Democracy” rally in Boston went well, we definitely outnumbered them, at least 4-1 (Sharri thinks 10-1). Please call your State representative from the list below and complain that they need to allow the Constitutional Convention vote to happen Jan. 2, else they are violating the Democratic process and the Constitution. Anyone can call the Speakers after you've called your rep.

Robert.Travaglini@state.ma.us 617 722-1500 Speaker
Rep.SalvatoreDiMasi@Hou.State.MA.US 617 722-2500 Speaker
Edward Augustus, 617-722-1485,
Robert Antonioni (978)-534-6946
Harriette Chandler 617 722-1544
Pamela Resor, 617-722-1120,
Christopher Donelan 617-722-2230
James Eldridge
, 617-722-2060
Jennifer Flanagan, 617-722-2582
Harold Naughton 617-722-2013
JamesLeary
617-722-2030
Vincent Pedone, 617-722-2090
Robert Rice
, 617-722-2060
Robert Spellane 617 722-2220

If your rep is not listed here (e.g. Lou Evangelitis) they upheld the Constitution and voted to allow the Constitutional Convention to hold the vote. As few as 7 phone calls from concerned constituents can actually impact these politicians, because they know that each call represents the thoughts of perhaps hundreds or thousands of voters.

"special" rights

Dear Sen. Kennedy,

Actually, all people in the US currently do have equal rights, what the Fed. Marriage Amendment does is prevent the redefinition of marriage to other that what it historically has been, the union of one man and one woman. Gay marriage is a special status that gay people seek, not only do they want the rights which they now can get through power of attorney, wills, and other means, they want the public recognition that their union is the exact equal of the foundation of civilization, the union of one man and one woman which creates the family, the unit that stabilizes and fostered all civilization by providing for the civilization of men, the protection of women, and the begatting and raising of children.

I know that marriage as a building block of civilization is not without its abuses, but that is no reason to add another abuse.

It is also disingenuous to say this won't affect Churchs. The government does not allow Churchs to violate the Civil rights of people, and creating a civil right for gay marriage means that when a Church refuses to marry gay couples, that Church is violating that couples Civil rights.
Sincerely,
Jay G

Dear Mr. ____:
Thank you for your letter on the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment
to the Constitution. I share your concerns, and I appreciate this
opportunity to respond.
I oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment. In more than two hundred
years of our history, we have amended the Constitution only seventeen times
since the adoption of the Bill of Rights. Many of the amendments have been
adopted to expand and protect people’s rights. By preventing states from
granting the legal benefits of marriage to same-sex couples, the proposed
Federal Marriage Amendment would restrict individual rights and undermine
our nation’s commitment to treating all people equally under the law.
Many people are concerned that the government may somehow interfere
with the right of their churches and religious groups to conduct their own
affairs. But as the First Amendment makes clear, no court and no state can
tell any church or religious group how to conduct its own affairs. Far
from upholding religious freedom, the Federal Marriage Amendment would
undermine it, by telling churches they can’t consecrate a same-sex
marriage, even though some churches are now doing so. The amendment would
flagrantly interfere with the decisions of local faith communities, and it
threatens the longstanding separation of church and state in our society.
Supporters of the amendment claim that same-sex marriages in one
state must be recognized in all other states, but that claim is not true.
States have broad discretion in deciding to what extent they will defer to
other states when dealing with sensitive questions about marriage and
raising families. Across the country, states are clearly dealing with the
issue and doing so effectively, according to the wishes of the citizens in
each of the 50 states. If it’s not necessary to amend the Constitution,
it’s necessary not to amend it.
Our nation has made extraordinary progress in the battle for civil
rights. The Federal Marriage Amendment would be an unjustified step
backwards, and I oppose it.
Thank you for again for contacting me on this important issue.
Sincerely,
Edward M. Kennedy

Dear Mr. Spellane,
As your constituent, it is my hope, indeed my expectation that you attend the Constitutional Convention on Nov. 9th. Moreover, it is my hope and expectation that you vote to allow a full up-or-down vote on the Protection of Marriage Amendment with no more recesses, postponements or delays. Allow the citizens of this commonwealth the opportunity to vote on the definition of marriage. It is your obligation to do so.

"Gay" "rights"

"Because if the parents and friends of gays are truly friends of gays, they would know from their gay kids that the relationship with an older man is precisely what thirteen-, fourteen-, and fifteen-year-old kids need more than anything else in the world." - the late Harry Hay, founder of the Gay Rights movement, sex-buddy of Grampa Walton Will Greer, who died at 90. In his obituary in the San Francisco Chronical it said,
"Harry Hay, gay rights pioneer, dies at 90." The paper favorably notes a number of things in Harry's life, including his left-leaning politics, his connection with the Communist Party in the 1930s and his founding of "The Mattachine Society," a group the Chronicle calls "the first sustained homosexual rights organization in the United States."

The Chronical left out the Man-boy stuff...

Three spots behind Harry in the annual San Francisco Gay Pride Parade is Nancy Pelosi, who had this to say about Mark Foley:
"Republican leaders admitted to knowing about Mr. Foley's abhorrent behavior for six months to a year and failed to protect the children in their trust. Republican Leaders must be investigated by the Ethics Committee and immediately questioned under oath."
Foley's text messages are abhorrent behavior, but Harry Hay's Man-Boy love is winked at. And She's third in line to be President.

MA Con Con

St. Paul told those in the Church at Phillippi (3:18-21):
For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping) that they are enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things. But our conversation is in heaven: from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ, Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

Constitutional Convention 11/09/06

sample email:

Dear Rep.__,

I urge you to let the People vote! Please do not close the Nov. 9th Constitutional Convention before voting on the Marriage Petition Amendment. Without the participation of Massachusetts citizens, the redefinition of marriage to include same-sex individuals will never be accepted by our Nation as a civil right. Same-sex marriage will remain the illegitimate and coerced privilege of elite Judicial activism by four Commonwealth of Massachusetts Justices. Let the people vote!
Sincerely,

Results over Legitimacy

The forces in favor of same-sex marriage have come out in favor of results over legitimacy. The only means to put a legitimate veneer over same-sex marriage would be to allow the political process to run its course, by having the MA state legislature vote to allow the people of the state to vote on any changes to the definition of marriage. Even though 170,000 signature were gathered, and the State Supreme Judicial Court has ruled it Constitutional, the gay community is against it.

Here is what they have to say for themselves:
"Plenty of people - Catholic bishops, editorial writers at the Boston Globe, political bloggers - believe that the only honorable way to deal with this amendment is by taking an up-or-down vote on it. We feel differently: the only honorable way to deal with this amendment is by killing it. We don't care how it's done: Vote it down, adjourn the ConCon, fail to make a quorum. Whatever. Just make this thing go away. Lawmakers owe the LGBT community nothing less."
"LGBT people have raised more than a million dollars for you. We have volunteered for your political campaigns. We have urged our friends to vote for you. Thanks in no small measure to our efforts, not a single one of you who has supported marriage equality has lost your seat."
- Bay Windows, "Open Letter to Bay State Lawmakers" (11/02/06)
