"special" rights

Dear Sen. Kennedy,

Actually, all people in the US currently do have equal rights, what the Fed. Marriage Amendment does is prevent the redefinition of marriage to other that what it historically has been, the union of one man and one woman. Gay marriage is a special status that gay people seek, not only do they want the rights which they now can get through power of attorney, wills, and other means, they want the public recognition that their union is the exact equal of the foundation of civilization, the union of one man and one woman which creates the family, the unit that stabilizes and fostered all civilization by providing for the civilization of men, the protection of women, and the begatting and raising of children.

I know that marriage as a building block of civilization is not without its abuses, but that is no reason to add another abuse.

It is also disingenuous to say this won't affect Churchs. The government does not allow Churchs to violate the Civil rights of people, and creating a civil right for gay marriage means that when a Church refuses to marry gay couples, that Church is violating that couples Civil rights.
Sincerely,
Jay G
