Nursing Home CCP Virus deaths

Seema Verma, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CMS says many states did not follow Federal guidelines when admiting or readmiting Nursing home patients. "Under no circumstances should a hospital discharge a patient to a nursing home that is not prepared to take care of those patients' needs," Verma said on Fox News Radio. “The federal guidelines are absolutely clear about this.”

In MA, where 60% of all CCP virus Covid19 deaths were from Nursing Home patients, Gov. Baker sent patients to nursing homes even when infected. Likewise in NY. Now these governors and State Health officials are trying to shift blame.

NY State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker and Gov. Andrew Cuomo pathetically claim their March 25, 2020 directive forcing Nursing Homes to admit and / or re-admit patients with the CCP Covid19 virus had nothing to do with the later deaths of thousands of residents from the virus. Even though they sneakily rescinded it May 10, by removing it from the NY State Health Web site and announcing that Hospitals must test patients for CCP Covid before sending them to Nursing Homes.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state policy of allowing residents to return to elderly-care facilities was in line with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, PolitiFact in May rated that claim "mostly false," pointing out the state appeared to pressure nursing homes to take COVID-19 patients regardless of whether they could properly house them.

[Nursing] Homes that followed federal infection control guidelines were largely able to contain the virus, asserts Verma. She also said state orders requiring nursing homes to take recovering COVID patients were “not appropriate” and “may have contributed to this issue as well.”

“I think that’s very disingenuous. Our guidelines were very clear. You don’t put somebody in the nursing home if the nursing home is not prepared to take care of that patient,” said Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
