possibly a first, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Detroit * Allen Vigneron and Episcopal Vicar Msgr. Michael Bugarin are being sued by parishioners of Assumption Grotto Church for fraud related to their involvement in fabricating charges of sexual abuse against former Assumption Grotto pastor Fr. Eduard Perrone.

Fr. Perrone was very publicly removed in July 2019, after the archdiocese announced a "credible" allegation of abuse based on one accuser's 40-year-old "repressed memory."
This credible allegation came about after Bugarin and Macomb County Detective Sgt. Nancy LePage coached, pressured and manipulated the accuser 'John Doe' to make incriminating statements against Perrone, statements which John Doe, who has been on psychiatric medicine for 20 years and is also under spiritual direction by Msgr. Michael Bugarin later repeatedly denied and recanted.
The
MI State Police investigation and interview with John Doe found no evidence of abuse by Fr. Perrone.
Also at issue are
Archdiocean efforts to conceal a previously undisclosed Sept. 13, 2018 interview "that completely exonerates Fr. Perrone", as well as text messages to Msgr. Bugarin from archdiocesan investigator James Smith after interviewing the accuser, messages that appear to indict the archdiocese while clearing Perrone of guilt.
Bugarin's treatment of Fr. Perrone has been one-sided and defamatory, not including any statement by Fr. Perrone where he denies or affirms the charges as well as leaking this local story in its one-sided form to the Associated Press, AP, which propagated this now shown to be false story to millions and millions of readers. Abp Vigneron still refuses to answer any questions about this calumny.

Fr. Perrone has also
passed a lie detector test, which lasted over 2 hours, with results that were so unequivocal that they could be used in textbooks, according to test administrator Mr. Michael Anthony (License # 6001000316), who administered the test at the offices of Kolomjec & Associates, P.C. Mr. Anthony is a retired police officer (former Police Lieutenant with the Taylor Police Department in Michigan), and a highly experienced and well-respected polygraph examiner, who "currently performs polygraph services for the United States Probation Office as well as the Michigan Department of Corrections, with a focus on polygraphs related to sex offenses."

Archbishop Vigneron is either totally incompetent or involved. He's also the Vice President of the USCCB, while Fr. Perrone is still on leave from duties with no ability to contest his removal. 50 former altar boys have testified in defense of Perrone’s integrity, including one who after attempts by Bugarin to coach him into some kind of statement against Perrone, simply got in his car in Texas and drove to Detroit to give a clear exoneration and condemn the actions of Arch-Diocesan investigators.

Fr. Perrone Exposes Gay Porn Scandal at Detroit Seminary
Father Perrone was instrumental in shutting down St. John's Provincial Seminary in Detroit, after exposing a gay pornography scandal. As Jay McNally, former editor of Detroit's archdiocesan newspaper, has reported:
When Vatican officials came for the first visitation in about 1982 at St. John's Seminary, which was proudly labeled the "Pink Palace" by local homosexuals, Detroit's Cdl. Edmund Szoka was able to prevent any real discussion of the homosexual culture there, until the final day, when Fr. Eduard Perrone forced the issue by secretly delivering a long and detailed dossier about the seminary's homosexual culture to the visiting Vatican official.
The story of amazing intrigue — and courage — by Perrone is included in Michael Rose's profile of Perrone in his book, Priest: Portraits of 10 Good Men Serving the Church Today. Since 1994, Fr. Perrone has been pastor of one of the most orthodox parishes in the Detroit archdiocese, Assumption Grotto Church.
Perrone's dossier led to the Vatican forcing Szoka to shut down St. John's and consolidate the major and minor seminary at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.
Perrone was eventually ordained to the priesthood, but faced opposition from the archdiocese, which filed a canonical case against Perrone for "heresy." The priest defended himself against the charges, the case was appealed to Rome and the Vatican ultimately sided with Perrone.
