Who knew?

A recent hit piece on Catholics and the Pro-Life movement appeared in the Worcester Telegram, where the real Grim Reaper, James Gratton, calls Catholics all sorts of names and claims that we are terrorists (literally) because we stupidly believe that the fetus is a human baby. Go Figure!

In the comments section, Sarah has dilgently defended access to abortion, though conceding that after 24 weeks abortion should be illegal.

I took Sarah to task (rather severely) for her simplistic defense of abortion, writing, "'In spite of the varied possibilities for information, most Germans didn't know because they didn't want to know. Because, indeed they wanted not to know. ...Those who knew did not talk; those who did not know did not ask questions; those who did ask questions received no answers. In this way the typical German citizen won and defended his ignorance, which seemed to him sufficient justification of his adherence to Nazism. Shutting his mouth, his eyes and his ears, he built for himself the illusion of not knowing, hence not being an accomplice to the things taking place in front of his door.' - Primo Levi.

It seems to me that embryology is pretty clear - it is the study of the development of humans. Your 'proof' that embryos don't become human until the 24th week is laughable, your claim that 7 week old fetuses are a blob of cells indicates that you cannot 'see'. Your willingness to allow abortion after 24 weeks in so many other states indicates an ethics driven by expediency. Your Solomonic, Sarahmonic wisdom has cut the baby in half. And you know better."

I pray this gets through to her. and others blinded by the Pro-choice propaganda.

What a shame that Mr. Gratton rejects a scientific fact. In the words of Dr. & Mrs. J.C. Willke: "Biologic human life is defined by examining the scientific facts of human development. This is a field where there is no controversy, no disagreement. There is only one set of facts, only one embryology book is studied in medical school. The more scientific knowledge of fetal development that has been learned, the more science has confirmed that the beginning of any one human individual's life, biologically speaking, begins at the completion of the union of his father's sperm and his mother's ovum, a process called 'conception,' 'fertilization,' or 'fecundation.' This is so because this being, from fertilization, is alive, human, sexed, complete and growing." (Why Can't We Love Them Both, p. 57)

Unable to produce anything even remotely resembling an intelligent or coherent argument, Mr. Gratton is engaging in the techniques of degradation. I would refer your readers to my Blog post on Gabriel Marcel and his thought on this subject.

Please accept my apology for posting three separate comments. But in my humble view, the thought of Gabriel Marcel is precisely the antidote our sin-sick society needs so desperately:

Your comments are always welcome, and appreciated here Paul.

The same people who describe an unborn baby as a "blob of cells," will not hesitate to label the murder of a pregnant woman a double-homicide.

How can something be murder when perpetrated by another and simply a "choice" to remove a "blob of cells" when the mother has an abortion?

You cannot have it both ways. Liberalism makes one stupid.

They have given up on reason and substituted will as their foundation.
