No Tours/No Golf

The so-called anti-discrimination ‘Bathroom Bill’ currently being debated in the Massachusetts Legislature allows boys or men who ‘feel’ they are a girl or woman to use women’s public locker rooms and bathrooms. Some legislators attempt to argue that this law will not affect public schools, but it will: Recently a group of State legislators met with Department of Education Commissioner Mitchel Chester. The Legislators attempted to explain that the legislative intent of the Transgender law excluded bathrooms and locker rooms from the changes to non- discrimination laws. Commissioner Chester rejected the explanation and has refused to withdraw the 11-page Guidance Document which includes bathrooms and locker rooms and discipline for students who complain. This Guidance document has received considerable local and national press including an Op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that was written by James Ehrhard who serves on the Tantasqua Regional School Committee in Sturbridge.

The nine-member legislative group called for the meeting because the Guidance document directs boys who think they are girls to use the girls’ bathroom and girls’ locker room. The Legislators contend that the law explicitly removed provisions that would allow this and that the Commissioner has gone beyond his legal authority. The Commissioner listened, but refuses to withdraw the Guidance.

Good Movie: ‘The Guys’ “is a small, intimate meditation on grief and loss in the days after September 11, 2001. Set less than two weeks after that fateful day, it relates an encounter between a New York fire captain named Nick and a writer named Joan, who meet to discuss the eulogies Nick has been called on to deliver for a number of his fallen brothers…[it]…is not an entertainment, or even a story, but a simple, direct portrait of grief amid overwhelming circumstances.” - Steven Greydanus

No Tours/No golf: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) filed an amendment that would block all Federals funds could have been spent transporting the President or Secret Service to a golf course until the President lifts the ban on White House tours.
Unfortunately for Gohmert, and us, House leaders, blocked it.
