My cousin's son, Chris Sparadeo, is fundraising to work with the Nicaraguan based NGO, blueEnergy. A registered 501(c)3, blueEnergy is currently focused on the East Coast of Nicaragua, where roughly 75% of the population has neither access to electricity nor life-sustaining clean water and sanitation. Chris will primarily work on establishing sustainable latrines, photovoltaic solar systems, water filters, efficient stoves and environmental education. He needs to raise $7,200 for air fare, room, fees board and health insurance for the 12 months he'll live & work in Nicaragua. About 50% of the funds raised will be directly donated to charitable efforts in Nicaragua, which means half of your donation amount is tax deductible on your Fed. taxes (form #8283). If you are in a position to contribute please make a check to “blueEnergy memo: Chris Sparadeo” and send your donation to:

“'The Church as a whole and all her Pastors, like Christ, must set out to lead people out of the desert, towards the place of life, towards friendship with the Son of God, towards the One who gives us life, and life in abundance.'” It often happens that Christians are more concerned for the social, cultural and political consequences of their commitment, continuing to think of the faith as a self-evident presupposition for life in society. In reality, not only can this presupposition no longer be taken for granted, but it is often openly denied.

Occupy Springfield expose their anti-Christian bias by attacking Christian minister Scott Lively. Occupy Springfield has publicly stated that one of their goals is to drive Pastor Lively and his Christian mission out of town. Dr. Lively, a Springfield native, established Redemption Gate Mission Society a few years ago and set up the Holy Grounds Coffee House in inner-city Springfield to bring Christian faith to the downtown area. The coffee house has gained great popularity in the neighborhood as a spiritual oasis in an often dangerous area. But this time the Christians stood up to this intimidation.

What's wrong with this picture: Faithful Catholic Dan Avila writes an article on same-sex attraction for the Boston Pilot, asserting that the Evil One plays a role homosexuality. Five days later Avila retracts, apologizes, and is either fired or resigns from his new job with the USCCB. The offending paragraph "...the ultimate responsibility [for same-sex attraction], on a theological level, is and should be imputed to the evil one, not God. Applying this aspect of Catholic belief to interpret the scientific data makes more sense because it does not place God in the awkward position of blessing two mutually incompatible realities -- sexual difference and same-sex attraction."
The Pilot did not state what Avila's "theological error" was. Many think it was a political error.
