Gate closed?

Why was this gate blocked, and why was a cemetary placed in front on it?

Hello Jay, I just returned from a conference and was web-surfing when I came across your post. Since no one else has ventured an answer, may I assume that I will win first-prize for answering the question? You may mail me my box of grade-A Cuban cigars anytime.

The wall in question is the Eastern Gate to the Old City of Jerusalem. The cemetery is a Muslim one.

The Lord revealed to the prophet Ezekiel (I call him Zeke - we've been friends for years) that the Eastern Gate will remain closed and will not be reopened until the return of the Messiah in glory (Ezekiel 44:1-3).

May I share an additional insight? I have always seen a double-meaning to this passage. For me, the Gate which remains closed after the King passes through it also refers to the virginal womb of Our Lady. Read the passage carefully.

I have always meditated on that prophecy.

Thanks Jay. Smoke em if you got em.

An important article:

Mr. Melanson's years of exposing an anti-Semitic hate group are beginning to pay off. There is talk of Chronicle doing a piece. Mary Richardson has indicated interest.

Stay tuned.

As I stated at La Salette Journey Marie, it is important to show both what the Catholic Church IS and what it ISN'T.

Paul has done this admirably. The SPLC article makes it clear that the SBC is NOT affiliated in any way with the Roman Catholic Church. The scandal they cause by their anti-semitism is very damaging. This because it gives rise to the idea that the Catholic Church is anti-semitic. Paul's posts at his Blog have shown time and again that such is not the case, that in fact the Church has consistently condemned anti-semitism as incompatible with the Gospel.

This doesn't mean, of course, that faithful Catholics don't have legitimate concerns and/or disagreements with Judaism and the Jewish People. We recognize Jesus as Savior and Messiah. But in disagreeing with the Jewish People about the Person of Our Savior, we don't hate Jews or relegate them to eternal damnation. It is for God to judge the internal guilt of any person - Jew or Gentile.

I highly recommend the SPLC article.

Thanks Paul, excellent insight, I had only heard that the cemetary was put there after the gates were walled shut in 1530, to prevent the Messiah from coming to save the Jews. Any Jews passing through a cemetary would have become ritually unclean.

I like that insight into the Blessed Virgin. It is in line with the tomb that Joseph of Arimethia gave for Jesus' burial, never used by anyone else before or after.

You know Jay, I never thought about Jesus' tomb not being used after His burial and subsequent Resurrection. So thank you for that comparison. This is what is so exciting about our Catholic Faith: every day one can learn something new or gain a new appreciation for certain truths. And so our faith, which begins as a mustard seed, develops with the help of God's grace and with new insights from friends.

Thanks again.

The tomb was like the womb, and Jesus is the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega.

Ezekiel 44:
1 ¶ Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut.
2 Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
3 It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the LORD; he shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.

I thought this referred to the perpetual virginity of The Blessed Virgin Mary?
