Dale O’Leary, author of “One Man, One Woman, A Catholic’s Guide to Defending Marriage”, (available at Shower of Roses in W.Boylston), has written a well-researched, thorough and compassionate defense of our Church’s teaching that marriage is a life-long union between one man and one woman. I continue quoting from this work to assist our outreach to our brothers and sisters who have Same-Sex Attraction, SSA.
“In speaking about the ‘cause’ of same-sex attraction, we must always keep in mind that we’re talking about unique individual human beings, each with his own history. In different cultures and different eras, furthermore, there are different circumstances that can push a person down the path to same-sex attraction. And although people seldom ‘choose’ to be attracted to the same sex, human beings nonetheless make many choices, some of which might help lead to SSA. No single pattern will ever explain all cases…”
“…If SSA were genetically determined, then identical twins could be expected to have identical patterns of sexual attraction. Yet in the majority of cases, this isn’t so. The most comprehensive research on SSA in identical twins was done by John Michael Bailey and associates, using members of the Australian twins’ registry. They found that if one twin was non-heterosexual, in only eleven percent of the cases was the other twin also non-heterosexual.”*
“Bailey’s research with Australian twins precludes a strictly biological or genetic cause for same-sex attraction.”

I will be quoting from her work to help all of you become familiar with the facts that are so critical to our outreach and help to our brothers and sisters who have Same-Sex Attraction, SSA. “Homosexual behavior is not a novelty of modern times…However in almost every past society and era, it has been regarded as unacceptable, immoral, a sign of weakness, unnatural.” “…those who promote the gay agenda today often point to classical Greece as a culture in which homosexual behavior was glorified. But would they really want to return to classical Greek values? The sexes were strictly separated. Woman were restricted to the home, not educated, and generally regarded as inferior. Adult male citizens were allowed to pursue sexual relationships with adolescent boys whom they were supposed to educate. Once the boys reached maturity, though, they were expected to marry women. What we had then was not an enlightened approach to sexuality, but an organized form of abuse – of both women and boys.”

America depends upon the free and open discussion of ideas. The use of fear and intimidation to silence public discussion is fundamentally incompatible with the American form of government in which ultimate authority rests with the people…Recently, the tech company Mozilla (maker of the popular web browser Firefox) forced out Brendan Eich, the company’s CEO and inventor of Javascript, over his support of Proposition 8, the 2008 measure to preserve marriage in California as the union of one man and one woman. When Mr. Eich made his modest contribution to support Proposition 8, Barack Obama was on the ballot as a candidate who said he believed marriage was the union of one man and one woman. Now Eich has been the target of a vicious character attack by gay ‘marriage’ activists who have forced him out of the company he has helped lead for years…Fear and intimidation should not be used to control speech.
