Scandal

Scandal: According to St. Thomas(II-II, Q. liii, a. 1) scandal is a word or action evil in itself, which occasions another's spiritual ruin. It is a word or action, that is either an external act—for an internal act can have no influence on the conduct of another—or the omission of an external act, because to omit what one should do is equivalent to doing what is forbidden; it must be evil in itself, or in appearance;

Something needs to be done to prevent Holy Cross from hosting speakers from Planned Parenthood on October 24 at the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy. These speakers will address the topics of contraception and abortion as well as how to use judicial bypass to circumvent parental rights and procure abortions for minor daughters behind parents backs.

How much more scandal can the faithful of Worcester be expected to take from the weak willed and wayward shepherds on St. James Hill? I understand that some fraternal correction and discipline needs be done in private, but if this conference is allowed to take place without some consequences, this scandal will drive many faithful to doubt, confusion and despair. If Holy Cross promotes scandal there will be consequences - if not for the college, then for the faithful who cannot be expected to maintain their faith amid such confusion.

King David was Pro-Life

King David admitted both the Pro-Life and Original Sin teachings of the Catholic Church in the same sentence:
Psalm50/51:5 Surely I have been a sinner from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Moses also taught that causing a pre-mature birth that resulted in death (abortion) was murder: EX21:22-24 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart [from her], and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges [determine]. And if [any] mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for …

Fruit - yaled, from yalad (begat), something born, lad, offspring.
depart - yatsa, to go out

If the baby lives, the punishment is monetary, but if the baby dies, life for life.

How does God knit?

Some have asked, is abortion mentioned in the Bible? A variation on this would be, are the Catholic teachings on the sanctity of life Scriptural? The answer is Yes.
Consider Psalm 138/139:13. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast knit me together in my mother's womb.
How would God explain the double-helix 3000 years ago? I think this pretty much sums it up. The Hebrew word is cakak (saw Kak') which can also be translated as entwine (as in a screen), and also means covered or protected.

God has us covered! He has knit us in our mother's womb.

St. Ignatius of Antioch

Ignatius, Epistle to Romans, Intro

Ignatius, who is also called Theophorus, to the Church which has obtained mercy, through the majesty of the Most High God the Father, and of Jesus Christ, His only-begotten Son; the Church which is sanctified and enlightened by the will of God, who formed all things that are according to the faith and love of Jesus Christ, our God and Saviour; the Church which presides in the place of the region of the Romans, and which is worthy of God, worthy of honour, worthy of the highest happiness, worthy of praise, worthy of credit, worthy of being deemed holy, and which presides over love, is named from Christ, and from the Father, and is possessed of the Spirit, which I also salute in the name of Almighty God, and of Jesus Christ His Son: to those who are united, both according to the flesh and spirit, to every one of His commandments, who are filled inseparably with all the grace of God, and are purified from every strange taint, [I wish] abundance of happiness unblameably, in God, even the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Chapter IV.-Allow Me to Fall a Prey to the Wild Beasts.
Entreat Christ for me, that by these instruments I may be found a sacrifice [to God]. I do not, as Peter and Paul, issue commandments unto you. They were apostles;

The Story Stalls here

Fort Lauderdale's Democratic mayor, Jim Naugle decided to fight the disgusting scourge of gay men having sex in public toilets by changing the door locking system to prevent easy access to casual sex by cruising perverts, and protecting young boys from walking in on this disgusting behavior. The Gay community re-acted angrily, accusing the mayor of homo-phobia, gay-bashing and of course 'Hate'. The mayor planned a press conference where it was assumed that he would kowtow to the Homosexual Lobby and apologize: He did, but not as expected. As reported in the Townhall article, The Story Stalls Here by Robert Knight, August 30, 2007, "Naugle delivered an apology all right, but not the expected groveling before the rainbow flag. Instead, he apologized to "the children and parents of our community" for not being informed about "how serious the problem was of sexual activity that's taking place in bathrooms and public parks." Then he made a shocking assertion: that Broward County leads the nation in new AIDS cases."

Flannery O'Connor

"The Catholic writer, in so far as he has the mind of the Church, will feel life from the standpoint of the central Christian mystery: that it has, for all its horror, been found by God to be worth dying for."
The Church and the Fiction Writer, 1957

"I think that the Church is the only thing that is going to make the terrible world we are coming to endurable; the only thing that makes the Church endurable is that it is somehow the body of Christ and that on this we are fed."
Letter to her friend A, July 20, 1955

Who knew?

A recent hit piece on Catholics and the Pro-Life movement appeared in the Worcester Telegram, where the real Grim Reaper, James Gratton, calls Catholics all sorts of names and claims that we are terrorists (literally) because we stupidly believe that the fetus is a human baby. Go Figure!

In the comments section, Sarah has dilgently defended access to abortion, though conceding that after 24 weeks abortion should be illegal.

I took Sarah to task (rather severely) for her simplistic defense of abortion, writing, "'In spite of the varied possibilities for information, most Germans didn't know because they didn't want to know. Because, indeed they wanted not to know. ...Those who knew did not talk; those who did not know did not ask questions; those who did ask questions received no answers. In this way the typical German citizen won and defended his ignorance, which seemed to him sufficient justification of his adherence to Nazism. Shutting his mouth, his eyes and his ears, he built for himself the illusion of not knowing, hence not being an accomplice to the things taking place in front of his door.' - Primo Levi.

It seems to me that embryology is pretty clear - it is the study of the development of humans. Your 'proof' that embryos don't become human until the 24th week is laughable, your claim that 7 week old fetuses are a blob of cells indicates that you cannot 'see'. Your willingness to allow abortion after 24 weeks in so many other states indicates an ethics driven by expediency. Your Solomonic, Sarahmonic wisdom has cut the baby in half. And you know better."

I pray this gets through to her. and others blinded by the Pro-choice propaganda.
